Dover Air Force Base | Charles C. Carson Center for Mortuary Affairs

Back to Practice Area

Following the events of September 11, 2001, the U.S. Government accelerated plans to construct a Mortuary Facility at Dover AFB, the only facility of its kind in the U.S. Our team worked with the Air Force & DOD to design the facility, equipped to provide support during mass casualty military events, including immediate high intake capabilities for 500 staff, 24/7 operation, and 100 autopsies in 24 hours. The 84,800 sf facility includes 50+ stations, including a 7,500 sf warehouse and spaces for efficient processing, storage, and administrative functions. Services were performed under a Design/Build contract, with a phased approach to provide efficient operation of the facility. A wall of honor commemorates the brave men and women sent through the facility who gave their lives in defense of our Country.
