West Salisbury Elementary School Achieves LEED Gold Certification

West Salisbury Elementary School achieved LEED Gold Certification from the United States Green Building Council. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification is the recognized standard for measuring a building’s sustainability and is the culmination of a rigorous third-party review process confirming a building has successfully addressed sustainability goals set forth by the rating system.
The new 60,949 sf elementary school provides 16 classrooms for 350 students in grades PreK-2nd grade and includes an art and music room, gymnasium, cafeteria, media center, and spaces for Title One and special programs. Sustainable building strategies used in the design of the new facility include high efficiency mechanical systems, daylighting throughout the school, water use reduction practices and the use of recycled materials and low-emitting paints, coatings, flooring, furniture and adhesives.
