Becker Morgan Group Supports Future City STEM Program

Becker Morgan Group’s Wilmington office recently partnered with two local schools to sponsor a student trip to Raleigh for the Future City Competition, a hands-on, cross-curricular education program that brings STEM to life for middle school students. The students were mentored by engineering and planning staff in the Wilmington area, including five Becker Morgan Group employees, who participated by speaking to the students and showing them examples of recent projects they had completed. Thirteen students from Williston and Gregory Middle Schools participated in the regional competition and were awarded “Best Use of Construction Materials”.

The Future City Competition asks middle school students to design a futuristic city with innovative solutions to some of today’s most pressing issues. This year’s challenge tasked students with addressing climate change in their city. The Future City program has grown to encompass more than 45,000 students annually in the US, Canada, China, Egypt, and Nigeria.

Livian Jones, who handles Becker Morgan Group project entitlements and business development, worked closely with Agnes Gault, a teacher at Williston Middle School, to provide additional mentoring and support to the program. Jones commented, “What an enriching program! Becker Morgan Group looks forward to continuing our support and mentorship of Future City next year.”
