Thoughtful Interior Design & its Impact on your Project

Interior Designers are devoted to the more specific aesthetic, functional, and psychological characteristics of an interior environment. They approach each project with four primary principles to create spaces that meet the end users’ needs while improving the human experience.

Becker Morgan Group’s interior design team strives to incorporate these four principles of design into each project: social responsibility, wellbeing, sustainability, and adherence to schedule and budget.

Social Responsibility

Social responsibility is a mindset that emphasizes people’s needs and experiences; it values justice, equality, participation, and sharing. Design practices that emphasize social responsibility include gathering spaces, sharing of information, and ease of access.

Lewes Public Library: this community facility was designed to foster a love of learning and serve as a beacon for community engagement. Dynamic and flexible furniture selection facilitates on-going library programs and evolving patron needs. The historical collection is on display in a temperature-controlled room celebrating Delaware’s heritage. Glass paned walls encourage community members to explore the past while inspiring the next generation to be the change of tomorrow.

Wellbeing

Interior designers aim to stimulate experiences that provide pleasure and meaning to the people that inhabit each space. Strategies utilized to promote wellbeing include daylighting, acoustic balance, comfort, isolation, and safety.

Delaware State Police Troop 7: due to police troops’ secure nature, large windows are a threat to the police force’s safety. Natural light was introduced by providing clerestory windows in the main corridors, connecting troopers with the world outside while still protecting the officers. Finishes throughout the facility are Greenguard certified, offering high indoor air quality and improving the overall wellbeing of each trooper.

Sustainability

By determining efficient and effective uses of space and selecting materials that offer low environmental impact, interior designers make strategic decisions to meet the current users’ needs while decreasing pollution and energy consumption.

Somerset County Technical High School: the goal of this project was to do more with less. Cost-effective and efficient design solutions resulted in a highly durable and sustainable building, earning the facility LEED Gold designation under the U.S. Green Building Council. Fabrics and materials were sourced from sustainable resources and have a high percentage of recycled content. Selecting single-source vendors aided in reducing transportation requirements and packaging waste during delivery and installation.

Schedule and Budget

With any project, there are limitations. Recognizing time and money constraints through evaluation and engagement with our clients is critical to a project’s success.

TidalHealth Peninsula Regional, Linear Accelerator: the hospital was fully occupied and functioning through renovations, requiring the project to be completed on an accelerated schedule. Material selections were based on availability, maintainability, cost, and warmth for patients. Millwork was designed with a timeless style, while calming graphic images were placed strategically within the space.

Becker Morgan Group’s interior design team works diligently to tailor our efforts to focus on what’s most important to our clients. Our projects showcase the impact of design on the human experience and the value design provides. We strive to positively change people’s lives with each and every project.
