Delaware Veterans Home

Back to Practice Area

The State of Delaware appropriated funding and passed legislature to contract with a design-build team to deliver the State’s first Veterans Home. The vision was to create a “country farm house” feel. The 105,000 sf, 150-bed skilled care assisted living home utilizes exterior materials of stone and brick with metal roofing to give a sense of casual, rural living. The design concept for the interior is a centrally located town square with public areas including dining, library, chapel, lounges, canteen, and a post office. Resident wings extend from the town square to promote a sense of privacy from the public spaces. The home also houses its own kitchen, laundry, medical treatment areas, and administrative offices. This was a design-build, joint-venture project with Cubellis GBQC.
