Duck Creek Regional Public Library

Back to Practice Area

This library sits directly in the heart of the historic downtown district. This location was determined after several months of exhaustive studies focused on possible locations for the library within the community. This effort is coupled with an outreach developed building program created during an extensive Needs Assessment Study conducted by Becker Morgan. The new location replaces an aged 5,000 sf facility with a design that draws cues from the surrounding historic buildings, yet offers them in a modern and forward-thinking design. Connected directly to the rear of the historic Post Office on Main Street, the new construction offers expansive, floor to ceiling windows that encourage a seamless blending of the interior and exterior, allowing natural light into the interior spaces. Movable furniture and shelving along with widespread power and data connections promote maximum flexibility and allow the library to adapt to future program changes with ease. The new facility brings multiple public meeting spaces and program areas, from 1-3 person private study rooms to a large 200-person meeting room. An expanded children’s area is housed within the historic Post Office Building with its exposed ironwork and wood ceiling. A dedicated outdoor reading space encourages patrons to stay and enjoy library services a little longer. State-of-the-art technology and audio/video capabilities are provided to the public in an easy to use format. Overhead gates seal off the library area from lobby, allowing after hours access to the large meeting room, Makerspace, and catering kitchen.
