The Edward Q. Wilgus Community Clinic is a multifaceted project that combines history and hope for the future. Medically, the site will provide access to healthcare in an area of town considered to be a “medical desert”. Residents of the Church Street Community are landlocked by Route 50 to the south and Route 13 to the east, with no clear access to medical offices located outside of these pedestrian barriers. The building program features 22 exam rooms, labs, behavior health counseling, and financial counseling. It was important to provide not only clinic space, but also community outreach. This site will expand Tidal Health’s residency training program, allowing students to complete their studies in a clinical setting under full-time medical providers. The hope is that these students will remain in Salisbury and become well-known, valued members of the community. The front half of the building houses a large multi-purpose room, prep kitchen, and conference room. Examples of possible events include lectures, resume training, and pop-up yoga studios.
