Marsh View Residence

Back to Practice Area

Nestled between woods and wetlands, this coastal gambrel style home exudes New England influenced charm, minutes from pristine Delaware beaches. The floor plan was conceived to pay homage to a traditional four square layout, while allowing intercommunication between spaces for the open flow and function of a more modern active family lifestyle. Designed to respect solar and wind orientation, windows were placed to maximize privacy from adjacent neighbors while providing panoramic marsh and woodland views, and distant water vistas.

Vernacular gambreled rooflines are graced with gentle concave curving eaves supported by oversized Tuscan columns. Box-bay windows, eyebrow dormers, and strategically placed diamond pane divided lite windows provide an eye pleasing balance to the façade, with an English countryside flair. Numerous “old house” details abound inside, with custom built-ins, wainscoting, and oversized stair newels. A library nook, coffered ceilings, pedestal sinks, beadboard, and even a freestanding tub display details indicative of the old Nantucket beach cottage charm the Owner desired.
