Wicomico County Youth & Civic Center
Back to Practice AreaOriginally erected in 1959 as a war memorial, the Wicomico Civic Center requires improvements to remain competitive in today’s market. Wicomico County selected Becker Morgan Group to complete a safety, improvements, and expansion design study for the aging facility. Proposed site upgrades include improved parking and pedestrian safety, incorporating features such as new security and accent lighting, as well as additional curbing, crosswalks, and wayfinding signage. Exterior enhancements will also include park-like seating benches, native plantings, shade structures, and illuminated banners.
The main entry will be given more defining characteristics, with a new, fully conditioned glass vestibule. This new 2,530 sf addition with its high ceilings, exposed white-painted structure, and full-height windows will be filled with natural light, creating a welcoming entrance for visitors. A new box office extension with six walk-up windows will provide access to ticket sales from the outside of the building, freeing up congestion on the interior of the building during events and allowing purchasing of tickets throughout the day even when the main facility is not open to the public.
A 4,716 sf dining addition will serve as the new front for the campus. In addition to the 150 available seats indoors, diners will also have the option to enjoy one of the available 30 seats in the protected outdoor dining area adjacent to the main entry paths. This outdoor experience is intentional to promote the park-like nature of the campus, making the entire facility a destination that is self-sustaining, independent of specific events at the venue.
