Cape Fear Community College | Building SA Addition

Back to Practice Area

Cape Fear Community College (CFCC) responded to rapid growth in Pender County by expanding its existing campus, doubling the size of the facility. This expansion allows Pender County residents to access workforce development programs and science courses locally—programs that previously required travel to New Hanover County. The addition includes four large, flexible lab/classroom spaces designed to support economic and workforce development initiatives, as well as a dedicated science lab. Specialized spaces were also incorporated to support physical therapy programs and veterans’ services, further enhancing the campus’s community impact.

The expanded facility offers a wide range of educational opportunities, including Adult High School, Computers for Beginners, Effective Teacher Training, ESL, Forklift Certification, GED preparation, HVAC training, Medical Administrative Assistant, Notary Public, Nurse Aide, and Real Estate Pre-Licensing courses. CFCC utilized a design-build delivery method, led by W.M. Jordan. This collaborative approach enabled the design and construction teams to proactively address budget and schedule considerations. Through creative problem-solving and close coordination, the team successfully delivered a high-quality facility under budget and ahead of schedule, ensuring timely access to expanded educational resources for the community.
